The low-down I am booked in for a session at Ayurvedic Wellness Centre which includes a consultation with Dr Rafeena Kidavintavida, diagnosis and prescribed treatments. She says my Ayurvedic body type is a combination of kapha and pitta with an imbalance of vata, and gives me a lifestyle plan that includes bed by 10pm, 30 minutes of exercise and 20 minutes of meditation daily. Next is the treatment room, which is warm with a spicy scent. During stage one (Abhyanga), a therapist works a herbal oil firmly over my muscles. During stage two (Udvartana), an exfoliating herbal paste is rubbed over my body. For stage three (Shirodhara) a stream of warm oil is poured over my forehead and massaged through my hair. Bliss!
Pleasure factor Out of this world.
Downtime Three hours.
Results My muscles feel tenderised, my skin is silky smooth and my psyche is buoyant.
